Radical Boundary Changes Proposed
HAVE YOUR SAY NOW!

Staffordshire County Council's Executive recently agreed that radical plans to redraw the Council's boundaries should be sent out for public consultation prior to being submitted to the Government's Boundary Commission. The changes proposed by the County Council will have a devastating affect on this area.

At present Haughton, Church Eaton and Bradley are part of Gnosall County Division. However under the new plan they will be joined, along with Ranton and Seighford to the Rowley and Tillington Wards in Stafford. This new County Division will then stretch from Marston in the south to Creswell in the north. In Stafford it will cover all of Doxey, some of the Eccleshall Road, a part of Highfields, all of Rowley Park and Castlefields and even both sides of the Wolverhampton Road.

Barry Stamp has started a campaign to get the County Council to change its mind. He has pointed out that the Boundary Commission has said that County Council Divisions should be based on natural communities. Barry is concerned that this proposal does not do this and, should it be approved, Haughton, Church Eaton and Bradley will be swamped by the town area. If you feel the same way and would like to help Barry Stamp in his campaign please complete and return the form below by 15th September so your views can be passed on to the County Council. If you want more information give Barry a call on 822723.

I / We* object strongly to the proposal to form a new County Electoral Division by joining Haughton, Church Eaton, Bradley, with Rowley and Tillington Ward. If adopted such a Division would have no natural community of interest and would be dominated by urban issues. As rural communities Haughton, Church Eaton, and Bradley should be joined with Gnosall and other rural parishes to form a more coherent and natural new County Division.

I / We* agree with the County Council's proposal.

WHAT THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS ARE SUGGESTING

Barry Stamp and Stone Liberal Democrats have already suggested to the County Council that a new County Council Division is established for the rural area to the west of Stafford. This division should be made up of the rural parishes of Bradley, Church Eaton, Eccleshall, Ellenhall, Forton, Gnosall, Haughton, High Offley, Norbury, and Ranton. In making this suggestion it is believed that:-

  • these communities have far more in common than those proposed by the County Council
  • there will be no split between town and country.
  • the M6 motorway becomes a recognised boundary between this new Division and the town
  • unlike the County Council's preferred option, all the communities are also represented by a Parish Council

THE COUNTY COUNCIL REJECTED THIS SUGGESTION!

If the County Council has its way Haughton, Church Eaton and Bradley will be joined with part of Stafford Town including ................

Wolverhampton Road
Part of Highfields
Eccleshall Road
Doxey Marshes
Castle Fields
Rowley Park
Doxey
