We are putting patients first by
freeing doctors and nurses from government targets and meddling.
We are offering free long-term personal
care for people in residential homes, as we have done in Scotland;
no-one should be forced to sell their home to pay for care.
We would abolish tuition fees and
top-up fees, as we have done in Scotland, making university affordable
for every student.
We would invest properly in children's
early years by reallocating the £1bn Child Trust Fund to
where it matters most.
We would put 10,000 more police officers
on the streets by dropping the government's ill-conceived £3bn
ID card system, thereby cutting crime and the fear of crime.
We would offer £25 more on
the pension every week for people aged over 75 taking a million
pensioners off degrading means-testing.
We would offer free off-peak local
transport for all pensioners and disabled people.
We would axe the unfair and unpopular
Council Tax and replace it with a fair system of Local Income
Tax based on ability to pay.
We would seek to restore trust in
government after the disasterous war in Iraq, which we opposed
and to rebuild links with the United Nations and the European
Union
We would take the environment seriously;
cutting pollution, cutting congestion and boosting renewable
energy.
