Stafford Borough Council's Planning
Committee has recently given permission for the old fencing manufacturing
yard at Haughton Farm to be developed for housing. Barry Stamp
had asked that this application be determined by the Planning
Committee after being approached by both the Parish Council and
a number of local residents. They were objecting on two fronts.
Firstly that most of the site was out the Village Residential
Development Boundary (RDB) and if it was passed this could set
a dangerous precedent for other sites. Secondly they were objecting
on the grounds of highway safety and were arguing that the proposed
new entrance and exit would be dangerous. Barry put these arguments
to the Committee but they felt that as the land already had planning
permission for B2 (industrial) use this outweighed the concerns
of local residents. It was also pointed out that as County Council's
Highways Department were not objecting to the plan and felt there
would be no road safety danger it could not be refused on this
item. After debating the application for a little while the committee
voted 12 to 2 to approve it.This means the site has outline permission
for 11 houses and a new entrance and exit road.
Barry Stamp will now be watching carefully to see that once the
detail plans for the houses is submitted they are in keeping
with the rest of the Village.
"I would also like to see
some affordable housing built on the site, but it looks as if
it falls outside the criteria set down by the Borough Council
because of the fact it is only big enough for 11 houses,"
said Barry Stamp.
