Gnosall To Get
It's Own Mini Library |
The County Council
have announced they intend to open a new mini library at St Lawrence's
Primary School
in Gnosall. Barry Stamp has been campaigning for some years to
get this scheme off the ground. While not in an ideal location
in relation to some parts of the Village Barry believes this
new facility must be just seen as the first step in getting a
purpose built library - in a central location - in the Village.
However Barry is pleased that the County Council have listened
to his arguments and have agreed to keep the current Village
library van service running. This will mean residents living
in the Monks Walk area and those who find it easier to get to
the Grovenor Centre will still to able to access library services.
It is hope the new library will be ready for use in September. |
Bradley Caravan
Storage Plan Rejected |
Barry Stamp is pleased
to report that Stafford Borough Council have decided to refuse
the planning application to store caravans on the Fosters Nursery
site in Bradley. Planning was refused because the County Highways
Department objected saying the roads around Bradley could not
cope with cars and caravans in any great numbers. |
Town Centre
Development Given
Green Light |
The
plan to redevelop the old Riverside site in the centre of Stafford
has been given the green light by the Borough Council despite
the grave concerns of some opposition members. However shear
voting power ensure the Conservatives got their way. The plan
will mean a huge building, in some places 9 stories high, will
dominate the town for years to come. It will include a seven
screen cinema, a shopping mall, and nearly 300 apartments, but
despite it's size will only have just just over 350 car-parking
spaces.
"While I fully support the redevelopment of this site I
am concerned that this building in just too big. I believe the
planning officers should have worked with the developers to get
a building more in keeping with the town," said Barry Stamp. |
Good News For
The Future of
Stafford's RAF Base |
The news that the
Ministry of Defence are considering basing a new 700-strong army
regiment at the RAF base in Beaconside will certainly be welcome
news for the town. Barry Stamp and his Council colleagues had
been concerned that once the RAF relocated their 450 men to RAF
Wittering in Cambridgeshire the effect would be felt right across
the town. During the General Election campaign Barry met a number
of local business owners who were worried they could be facing
a bleak future without the trade this section of the RAF camp
produced.
However what is worrying is that the MOD said that one reason
the RAF needed to move was the on-site accommodation for the
airmen was poor and that over £1Million would have to be
spent to bring it up to a decent standard. Either this was wrong
or the MOD are now prepared to spend the money. Either way moving
the RAF out and the Army in will cost taxpayers a great deal
of money! |
