A518 Rebuilding

Over the past three weeks Barry Stamp has been working alongside residents in Gnosall who have been affected by the rebuilding of the A518 Newport Road. During this time he has been almost in daily contact with the County Council's Highways Department and has visited the site on numerous occasions. He has spoken to many of the local residents and to all of the businesses that have been hit by the road closure and during the work kept everyone informed with Special Focus leaflets.

However now the work is complete another battle has started - the finish on the new footpaths on both sides of the road is appalling! Barry has already been contacted by a number of residents who were complaining about the work. He has contacted the County Council's Highways Department and has arranged a site visit with the responsible engineer to see what can be done!

The A518 through Gnosall was closed to through traffic for 3 weeks to allow rebuilding to take place

Buses and light vehicle were diverted down Mill Lane increasing traffic dangers on that road

National Conference Is Told of Rural Link Success

Liberal Democrats from all around the Country recently met at Southport for the Parties Spring Conference. Speaking at the meeting organised to launch a campaign to improve public transport for young people Barry Stamp explained how successful the Gnosall Rural Link Project was, and how important is was to ensure funds were found to keep it running in the future.

"Finding imaginative was to provide public transport in Rural Areas is a job all Council's should do. However there is no point in building up expectations and them letting the funding run out. What the rural areas need the most is cheap reliable public transport. This is especially vital for the young and the elderly who can other wise be isolated," said Barry.
