Liberal Democrats back Barry's call to scrap the new M6 motorway
plan |
Liberal Democrats from across the West
Midlands voted unanimously to back Barry Stamp's call to get
the new M6 Toll Motorway scrapped.
Barry (pictured right) moved an emergency motion at the Liberal
Democrat West Midlands Regional Conference in Solihull, which
called on Alistair Darling to scrap both his proposal to build
the new road and also the plan to widen the existing M6.
Speaking during the debate Barry told the conference the new
road would have a devastating effect on the environment around
Stafford, and that the Government could not build it's way out
of the transport crisis it now faced. He said what was needed
was a comprehensive and integrated transport policy, that encouraged
more use of public transport and railways. |
