Bethany Project
Burnt Out
In Arson Attack |
Stafford's Bethany
Project Hostel for the Homeless has been burnt out in what police
think was an arson attack. Earlier this year Barry Stamp was
at the forefront of a campaign to keep the hostel open. The building
itself was set to be demolished next year, so this fire has now
hastened it's end. In it's place a new smaller hostel is planned.
When Barry heard the news he immediately contacted the Council
to seek assurances alternative accommodation was in place to
ensure the homeless were not forced back onto the streets.
"The old Bethany building is not important in its own right.
What I am concerned about is that adequate accommodation is provided
in Stafford to ensure no-one is forced to sleep on the streets.
I will be monitoring this situation closely and hopefully next
week will be meeting with officers from the Borough Council to
ensure adequate provision is available for both the current residents
and those people who may find themselves homeless in the coming
weeks," said Barry Stamp. |
