Barry
Stamp has called for a radical rethink on the route heavy lorries
take to and from the peat extraction site on the Doxey to Seighford
Road. At the moment all the big lorries drive through Doxey.
This means local residents face constant noise, pollution, and
road safety dangers. However this situation could get worse as
a planning application has just been made to extend the peat
extraction work. Barry has now asked the Department of Transport
and the County Council to allow these lorries to have direct
access to the M6 through the Doxey Motorway Maintenance Depot.
"By allowing these lorries
to get on and off the motorway at Doxey will mean all the problems
local residents face will disappear overnight. Already the DOT
use the Depot to carry out checks on heavy vehicles using the
M6 and a fleet of maintenance lorries is based there. This must
mean the entrances and exits to the M6 are considered safe, so
there should be no trouble letting these extra lorries use this
route", said Barry.
