Start
Of New Riverside Centre
Put On Hold By Developers |
Barry
Stamp is calling for an urgent investigation into why work on
building the new Riverside Recreation Centre in Stafford has
been postponed. Work on the new Centre, which form part of a
multi-million pound town centre development was due to start
last month, but developers Trent City Securities have now put
the start date back to April.
"Last year the Conservative's who run Stafford Borough Council
were keen to tell the "world" that they had negotiated
a deal with Trent City Securities which would see them build
a new £15million leisure centre in return for the Council
giving them the old Riverside Centre site on which they could
build a £multi-million commerical and residential development.
However in the last few days the news has broke that work on
the new leisure facility has now been put back to at least April.
This time the Conservatives do not seem very keen on saying why
this has happened, and everyone is being left in the dark. This
is a major project for Stafford, and when the plans were first
unveiled they were greeted with a number of objections. Surely
the Conservatives owe it to the residents of Stafford to explain
why this delay has occurred," said Barry Stamp
Over the last few days Barry Stamp invited Liz Lynn MEP to Stafford
to brief her on the new Riverside Development, it's delay, and
the effect such a massive development would have on the town. |
