COUNTY COUNCIL BOUNDARY CHANGE CAMPAIGN

Barry is currently working with residents of Haughton, Bradley, and Church Eaton in fighting the County Council's preferred option to recommend to the Boundary Commission that Church Eaton Ward is joined with Tillington and Rowley Wards in Stafford town to form a new County Council Division. He believes that should this proposal be accepted the changes will have a devastating affect on the three villages.

At present Haughton, Church Eaton and Bradley are part of Gnosall County Division. However under the new plan they will be joined, along with Ranton and Seighford to the two wards in Stafford. This new County Division will then stretch from Marston in the south to Creswell in the north. In Stafford it will cover all of Doxey, some of the Eccleshall Road, a part of Highfields, all of Rowley Park and Castlefields and even both sides of the Wolverhampton Road.

Barry has pointed out to the County Council that the Boundary Commission has said that County Council Divisions should be based on natural communities. Barry is concerned that this proposal does not do this and, should it be approved, Haughton, Church Eaton and Bradley will be swamped by the town area. He has also question the level of public consultation being undertaken by the Council and has criticised the fact that apart from a two page letter the consultees have not been sent and plans or details showing the proposed changes.

As part of this campaign Barry has distributed a leaflet to the majority of homes in Haughton, Bradley, and Church Eaton explaining what the County Council is proposing. The leaflet included a post free return form which seeks the views of residents. Barry will be passing these views to the County Council.

Barry is always interested to hear residents views - click here to e-mail him now.
