News that the Borough Council
has reinstated kerbside recycling collections in a Shredicote
Lane, Bradley, near Stafford has today been welcomed by Barry
Stamp.
At a time when the Council's
kerbside collection figures are particularly bad when compared
with other Council's across the Country they should be encouraging
more recycling not settling for less! I asked Cllr Stan Highfield
- Cabinet Member for Environmental Services - for an explanation
has to why the service had been removed along with his assurance
that it would be reinstated. Happily he agreed with me and I
am pleased to say Biffa have been told to restart the collection
using a smaller vehicle."
"Last year Biffa nationally
made a profit of over £90Million some of which no doubt
comes from their contract with Stafford Borough Council. Collecting
the recycling from Shredicote Lane with a smaller vehicle may
not be as cost effective as using the new larger kerbside lorries,
but surely the extra cost will put a minute dent in this final
profit figure. Reinstating this service is a real victory for
common sense. " said Barry Stamp.
