Lib Dems Fight Borough Council Demolition Plans Barry Stamp, along with fellow Liberal Democrat Councillors Chris Baron and David Seary have joined with residents of South Walls in Stafford to fight Council plans to demolish their homes. The news can like "a bolt out of the blue" when residents of the 29 houses received letters from the Council telling them of their plans. Chris and David as ward Councillors immediately made contact with the residents and along with Barry asked for an urgent meeting with the Councils Chief Executive. However at this meeting the Chief Executive was unwilling to answer any of the questions put to him and insisted that they be submitted to him in writing! Barry, Chris and David are extremely concerned that the plan to demolish the houses is only being put forward as the Council need the land they are standing on to add to the Riverside Recreation site that they are hoping to develop. If the houses remain the value of the site will not doubt me much less. Unfortunately the Council are trying to say they are planning to demolish the houses because they cannot be brought up to the Government standard by 2010 despite the fact they have already been modernised over the past few years!
More Information Needed on Special Needs Homes At a recent meeting of Staffordshire County
Council Barry Stamp told the Director of Social Services
that local residents were not being kept fully informed when
private houses were being converted to accommodate special needs
adults and children in the community. He explained the problems
that had recently arisen when a house in Haughton was converted
to accommodate four adults with learning difficulties, and how
the lack of information had resulted in rumours circulating around
the village. "I believe that had the village been informed
of what was happening none of the problems would have arisen.
Many local residents had serious concerns about what was happening,
the majority of which were based on misinformation," said
Barry. |
